Do You Hear The People Sing?
By mid-July,
the tiny gazebo
felt like home and
our dorm rooms
were saunas and
we sang sky-high
with our off-key renditions
of Broadway classics
and there were
times we spoke
about home and fear
and death and light
and one day
we read our stories
and you said
you’d miss me
and I said
I don’t want to go and what
I remember best is
hearing the people sing.
