I am the World
btw
may I send you a poem?
I am the world.
A world alone and entire,
Of itself, and complete.
Complete, in its full beauty,
Fiercely fighting, endlessly battling,
Its ugliness, my ugliness,
That grey misery that enters
Me, the world, from others.
Other worlds around me.
For the beauty of those worlds,
Their fragrant flowers, the ruby lips
Of the perfect maidens,
Daughters of art within,
Oh, locked within imperfect maidens;
The unspoken words of their poetry,
The unseen marvel of their art;
All this, their beauty.
Their beauty is my ugliness.
For they are their own world,
Worlds that know their beauty,
Beauty, beauty, beauty!
Oh, sweet, sweet word, so fine,
So perfect a thought, a fact, a feeling...
But they know only their own.
I know my beauty, and I know,
I scorn their own, for I
Feel and love not only mine,
But all the pure, perfect, real beauty, for,
I am the world.
