The Sky Grows Darker
Daily the sun, with dewy cheeks, gazes upon us
A smeared waxy skyline behind the gray
It’s barely 6AM and the smell of gum and ozone flood the subway station
The buildings reach with stretched elbows to the sun
The sun peers down and squints… it frowns and moves away
The trees they cringe in fear
Then you hear it… the first piercing sound of cutting metal
Smoke rises like incense from the construction site and turns the grey morning darker
The color of black velvet… a dark roast
The sun glances down and shakes its head in horror
A yellow cab is honking and oil is leaking from its seal
The sky grows darker
He blows out another puff of smoke
The sky grows darker

This is a poem about how humans imapct nature. Set in the commercial city of New York, this poem features a busy construction site, a cab with an oil leak and a smoker. All while the sky grows darker and darker with pollution.
