America
She was born a healthy baby to a man who once thought the Earth was flat
Her mother was the sky, rich with peace and love
Mexico, her brother, and Canada, her sister
Her baby babbles were incomprehensible, but as she grew older, she began to sing with such a lovely voice
"Oh, say, can you see..."
Washington became her left shoulder and the edge of Florida was her big toe
She danced under the sky, smiling into her mother's eyes- the sun and the moon
She caught the stars- her mother's freckles- in one fist and laughed out loud
She was happy with what she had
Happy and innocent and young
All declared she had much potential
They were certain she would be great
She grew to be a lovely young woman
She flipped her hair and let it soak in the Gulf of Mexico
He couldn't protect her anymore, her brother
She had discovered that she was attractive
Many fought for her, many- like Britain- wanted to claim her as their own, but no
She was strong and independent
And free
She decided she no longer needed any of the documents that served as her birth certificate
She stepped off of the platform where she had been christened
Off of the principles on which she had been established
No longer did she feel the need for the wisdom of her Founding Fathers
She colored her lips scarlet and laced up her fishnets
She wanted to be big, bad, and beautiful
Until she tripped on the original document of the Constitution and everything started falling down
She watched as her makeup cracked and blood began to stream from her fingernails
She looked at her hands and saw where terrorists had bombed and snipers had shot
She looked over her shoulder and saw people running for their lives, running to safety, to her sister
She looked at her stiletto heels and wished her fathers were there to give her guidance
As rain fell down from the disappointed gaze of her mother, the sky, she refused to cry
She looked at her brother, but he could not help her
She looked at her sister, but she didn't say a word
She searched through her fathers' things, hoping to find an answer
There, hidden and trampled, buried by a cross in a faraway place, on a hill called Golgotha
A little book
'Holy Bible' it said
She pulled the earrings from her ears and dropped to her knees
She had strayed so far from her home
This was the only way she knew to restore her integrity and truly become beautiful again
