The Moon
To everyone else the moon was a space rock
Or the thing that reflected the sun
Or the gravitational pull that changed the tides
Or the dominated victory of Neil Armstrong
Because they saw everything
Through the eyes of science and telescopes
But she saw everything through eyes of wonder
And to her the moon was a gentle, caring eye
That didn't make you squint like the sun did
And to her the moon was the mother of the ocean
That sang it lullabies and rocked it to sleep
And to her the moon was unconquerable and enrapturing
Because it was simply and utterly beautiful
