So long ago we walked hand in hand
A while ago we told stories and secrets
Not long ago we were the best of friends

Years ago we fought evil villains and played dolls
We were even secret agents for a while
We played dance and even school

I remember...

Your dark hair braided and your eyes bright
Your favorite shirt with the panda and glasses
Your bright smile holding braces long before mine

Your little small stature
Your giant personality

You got out the white board and wrote in big letters
We drafted our sisters and invented games
We taught math or English then we danced

You turned on the music so it was deafening
I followed along with your choreographed steps
Following your shadow like I always had

the summer was over
Then middle school came

Before we knew we were to old to play dolls
We were to old to be spys
We were to old to be princesses

One day we went our separate ways
And needless to say we were no longer friends

So long ago we walked hand in hand
A while ago we told stories and secrets
Not long ago we were the best of friends

Now it's time to forget
It's time to move on
You certainly have
But can I
