Crushed-Ice Stars
We passed a cyclist on the way
His feeble lamp made small struggle
Against the burgeoning velvet dark
And he seemed anxious to soon be home
But we, we stopped and killed the engine
And saw the crushed-ice stars
Far, frosty lights through the slow-cooling air
Then the cyclist overtook us and pedaling away,
He wondered at us rubbernecking the stars
For he saw them as they really were
But lights to speed him home.
