Stones
The walls of the building are made of stone,
stone liable to fall, boulders that could fall violently
on the vacant lot. It is no secret that the world
was not made for men and women; no, not for us
but for the stones; and even our man-made
boulders are not made for us.
We torture ourselves with objects we cannot touch;
despise being built upward into an illusion of safety;
this is materialism; this is what we have strived forever
to become disenchanted with.
