The Forgotten Island
There’s a forgotten island of voices
Stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
That forces humans to speak
Bittersweet confessions
That are crushed by the
Still lips of the people
Unseen by the people on the island who are
Scattered on the island
And are too afraid to be
Real and
Honest
On the island bells ring
for the people who cannot yet
admit their burdens to free themselves
While other human voices
Whisper and Shout
Secrets
And release their burdens slowly one by one
Seeing what lies after the island
The sounds catch in the wind
And are thrown among the weeping willows
So all can hear
Of what weighs most on their
Hearts
Or the sound of the bells
Ringing softly
Oh but how amazing the view from the top of
The dusty parched ledge of guilt
To be able to look down and see all that has been
Overcome
Can send a once heavy spirit soaring through the air
Unhooking it from the sturdy silver chains
That keeps the minds of the foreigners of the island
Bound from finding a way
To see past this place of
Acknowledgement
Underneath the lighting from the
Burned out moon, and past
Black stone arches that smell of bitter lemon
And beyond the ghostly tree of frankness
Many would chop down so not to hear truth more
Lies a young masked boy who is trapped in the forgotten island
Because he lost sight of himself
The young boy shaped his characteristics to make everyone happy
Forgetting who God made him to be
And how he was made perfectly
He created a mask for all to see
Many saw the glitter of fool’s gold
And thought it was real
He must stay until he can speak for himself
And find who he really is again
He must rid himself of his mask
And find his voice
He is forced to stare into the puddle not tinted of bias
That shows the dirt of his mask
On the outside he tries to trap the
Beauty of light to be his slave
But he can only see the truth
His mask no longer looks as rare and treasured
He begins to wonder what he looked like before the mask
And wonders when he will witness the
Core
Of the person he once was before he tried to please
Everybody
A single golden bell wrapped
Tightly round his throat
That quietly rings ‘til
His forgotten voice
Will slide a whisper of his confessions
To join the multitude who have announced
Their burdens, and allowed them to
Be broadcasted to a forgotten island
Through the gossiping breeze
He can see his reflection in the
Puddle
He watches his reflection
Mimic his every movement
He reaches up and pull his crumbling mask down
A brown eyed boy stares back at him
His fair skin glowing as a newly born’s skin does
He smiles a dazzling smile and allows
His hand to hover over the bell around his throat
That continues to rings ever so softly
And for a second the boy hesitates
For so long he had listened to his bell
Ring
Riing
Riiiing
And now he can finally be freed of its ringing
He proceeds to tear the bell away from around his neck
And make a fist around the tiny bell
Feeling the cold
Truth
The boy throws the cold bell
As far as gravity allows him
And freedom washes over him
Like a foaming wave
