Rotten
you left me collecting memories in Tupperware
stockpiled in the ice box for delicious remembrance
yet moonlight doesn't keep well
and the mason jars began to spoil
I kept bottling nothing
pretending substance was captured to prove the perfection so forced
yet decomposition is unforgiving
and it's hard to love someone who is polluted from the inside out
mold running along veins and fingers
infecting the fresh with the stench of the forgotten
the bare bones began showing as the supply ran thin
spoon feeding good intentions
and sweet lies as pretend
yet there was no denying that substance was long over due
but the memories had rotten and so had most of you
