The Trip Untaken
They pester me why I didn’t,
And why I had stayed behind,
Why’d I reject without question,
Certainty, but not monotone
Snowy hydrangea blossom where
Man has not stepped, the redwoods
Soar, nature’s skyscrapers, but
With no scars to hide
Cities from rivers and ashes, a
Resourceful taste, not the harmful
Acidity and smog I know, as the
Lights buzz just enough
The zombies that smile and laugh
Shed no tear, nor negativity in sight.
Fastened and fitted with silk, prim
And extravagant rippling waters
And yet, they had pestered me;
Pestered me the trip was untaken;
They pestered me to join their
Herd, the bane of who they are
They had pestered me to be more
Like them, when I could just be me;
And there’s no one, across sky and sea
That I’d actually like to be just like me
