The Woodpecker
*Smack! Smack! Smack!*
The little guy smacked his nose onto a tree.
I’d be concerned for his safety precautions, but he kept it up.
It seemed as if he was trying to annoy me.
He already succeeded by waking me from deep slumber.
He glanced straight at me to make sure I was giving him attention.
Unfortunately for me, I was.
He took awareness of that and smacked his schnoz some more.
I’m surprised it wasn’t dripping a crimson river.
I wished it was; then maybe he’d seize to do it.
The noise, energy, and resilience of a child.
People think that because they’re small, they’re adorable.
Not me. They’re only cute when they’re sleeping.
When they’re not making the most noise they can muster up.
It’s even worse when you’re attempting to rest.
