Day of Sun
A day of sun
A rushing river far from clear
capped with white
Dancing trees
And friends made of
Laughter sun to be
reckoned
A glaring yellow
That brings peace and
Intimidation
Burning a hole in the sky
Bright yellow rays
pinken backs
As small children
Run with sticks,
chilled water
Waiting to be warmed
Blue and green
Hides the secrets lurking
Untamed rapids
conceal a provoking danger
Life jackets
are unnecessary
In the shallows ducks hug
the shore line,
the center stirs trouble
Trees
rocking to a
Summer breeze providing a spot of
coolness
Grown from the
Water trapped from the water
A stray limb
Caught 10 feet out plunging
Under the waves
Before reaching up
for a breath
Boys beckoning
Enjoyment attracting laughter
from every corner
Familiar taste of
Kool Aid and river water
Children who
Don't have a clue little boys
who barely know how
to tie their shoes
Chaos is beautiful
In their worlds summer is spent
at the banks of the river
A single day of burning sun.
A single day of suffocating water.
A single day of dead limbs trapping a child under.
A single day of little boys left powerless.
A single day that made a mother lose a son.
