The Report Card
On work I reflect:
Today's dinner depends,
And your future meal too,
You never know what will happen to you.
My counterfeit smile concealing my angst,
Every step light as an elephant
Tiptoeing on my flank.
My eyes rolling back as they reveal the e(vil)mail
“Today is the day”: words that deny imminent fail.
Unready to hear whatever they say,
My sister, envisioned, mocking me for my grades,
instead of working my primary visual cortex,
I go to the yard, join my beagle, and dig my future place to rest.
