This is my one night of magic,
When the day has fled beyond the borders of evening
As the year creeps into the breezes of spring.
The stars and budding trees are my guests
That have come to see me perform;
To hear me sing a ballad of innocence
As my heart peaks out between moonlit ghosts
That meander across the sky,
Swaying in tune to my rustling lullaby
As it melts into the damp earth.
A newborn moth flutters by me,
Sifting gently through the strains of soft music
To glide on the notes of silence it embodies,
Peace dusting its fragile wings
As it vanishes into the world that lies
Just beyond the bright reaches of my sight.
The stars twinkle their approval as I sing;
Like the scent of rebirth around me
I swirl my melody over the ground
And into the mysterious and undiscovered beginnings
That lie ahead in ephemeral moments.
Mist rises between my toes
And my mouth still sings hauntingly;
My night may last for aeons
And yet here, in unshed tears I will remain,
Up to the moment I relent and say goodbye.
Until then I shall stay softly broken
Between clouds that hide my silver shadow,
Singing a lilting dream for spring.
