Social Gatherings
Dozens of eyes upon me
Digging my toes into the ground
As if making imaginary holes
To bury my confidence in
Hands clasped tightly in front of me
Holding the handle
Of an invisible shield
To protect me from the piercing stares
Dim buzzing in my ears
Like a thousand bees in my head
Blocking the tunnels of my mind
And stinging my eyes
One more time the voice comes
Sounding faded and foggy
I blink groggily, dispersing the mist
“Are you okay?” she asks again
