An Open Letter to the Mental Health Care System
Taut leather caresses my body as I sit
Squished between depression and obsession
Dreary gray skies are painted back inside
On the bleak white walls
That try to capture my mind
And squeeze it dry
I chit and you chat
Using your words to chisel away at my psyche
Turn my symptoms into a sculpture
And diagnose your work of art
You pass out prescription pills left and right
But can you prescribe me a new personality
Because mine’s borderline suffocating
Love and hate wrap their hands around my neck
And don’t let go until I’m gasping for breath
