Where I'm From
From quarterback, to closing pitcher and leadoff batter,
from point guard, to varsity golf captain as a sophomore,
I come from passions turned into obsessions.
I come from fly-balls until dusk turns to night,
beating the grounds crew out to the course,
and 20 minute intermissions from the driveway to limit the frostbite.
I am a product of competing, leading, and winning.
I am a product of failing, breaking, and losing.
I am a product of making the game-winning shot…and missing.
I am from stubborn arguments on the way back from a loss,
filled with deep, tense, silence in between.
The silence that made the ear-ringing alarms the next morning even louder.
I am from polished courts, bright lights, and uniforms,
as much as I am from blacktop, beat-up infields, and driving ranges.
I am from calloused hands, sprained ankles, and athletic tape.
I am from a past of highs and lows.
Everything I am from, has made me who I am,
and will push me to where I am going.
