august swimming pools
I love being underwater
there’s a peace that can’t be reached in the air
and I don’t worry about what’ next
when the artificial currents stir my hair
I can’t hear the headlines
I can’t feel the deadlines
down here, your voice won’t bother me
underwater, no one can touch me
On the cusp of the new and the blue
It’s easy to forget how to breathe
until you realize you’re drowning
and then I am floating
and then in the middle there’s me
caught between the sky and the sea
August swimming pools are in my eyes
but September days spill them over
On the cusp of the new and the blue
It’s easy to forget how to breathe
until you realize you’re drowning
maybe it’s just the chlorine getting to me
stopped listening to sad songs, but they’re damn catchy
