Gracie
“F***ing spread good vibes, you a**hole.”
Green eyes flitting up towards her forehead,
Circling back around,
End, bullet speed, in a pointed glare.
A line of multicolored crystals haphazardly
strewn on white painted windowsill
charge “love” with sunlight
like iphone with cord.
She smacks my hands away
When I try to read my tarot cards,
Won’t tell me my future
Until I take her ‘art’ seriously.
“When was the last time a chicken did something nice for me?”
stabs fork at vegan mac and cheese,
impaling yellow noodles,
Wheezing laughter through broken ribs
A punch in the gut for the man in the mosh pit
Who looked at me funny.
She fashions hope out of remnants,
saturates it with the heat of her rage.
Fights to save a world in which
She doesn’t want to live
Most days.
She says,
Thank the universe, Cancer goes well with Taurus.
Let’s go on a ghost tour and have sex with an evil spirit.
We’re getting diet cokes.
And we stand on Wilmette beach,
stare out at ever shifting divots of grey
lapping constant on
pale feet, crunched sea shell flecks.
I say,
Alone is the last place you will ever be.
