In The Morning
The alarm screeched
Ending blissful sleep
Pulling the comforter over my head
Refusing to leave the linens draping my bed
Outside the winds whip
The black ice waiting for those to trip
These conditions provided the perfect excuse
For academics can wait, I logically deduce
Imagining my poor friends
Following clock’s hands that count down days end
Bombarded with stacks of worksheets
That would seemingly take weeks
While I snuggle closer within mounds of blankets
Safe from the cafeteria’s inedible banquette
Slowly sleep returns and I fall asleep with a smile
Completely unaware that no farther than a mile
Franklin High was silent and still
The students would not return until
The next morning's sun caused the night to fallaway
For I forgot today was Sunday.
