Autumn

Looks like you came after all;
The broken leaves of chilly fall.
The day is gone, the night is still.
You quiet come with comfort’s chill.

How long I’ve looked with such a gaze;
A smile aimed towards brighter days.
These days I dreamed with child’s eyes;
A world of wonder and surprise.

And through it all I did not see,
Flowers turn to summers green.
Summer now has gone away.
Foliage, broken, guides the way.

To think we live to see this day,
No hand nor spell can take away.
We cry or laugh and work or play,
But autumn will come anyway.

So see my friend a life worth lived.
Everything gone that I could give.
Embrace the end, from joy to sin.
For autumn will not come again.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem while reflecting on the life I had lived so. I did my best to capture the feelings I had when I looked into my past somberly realized it was gone and the feelings I had when i looked into the future with a sense of optimism.
