Each and every breath that we make, both while dreaming and while awake, you’re defeating Death, for this reason, with each breath, the control over our life, we take.

A wooden table

Someone crying in the cradle

The mother’s gone

So is the father

Yet their lives continue on

This is their fable

The phone makes a sound

It’s someone from uptown

Another notification

More sex, drugs, and violence

Just like it was “Californication”

But, this is no vacation

This is the life of many

Too many

And this country does nothing

Nothing proactive at least

They just throw people in jail

While they let the cartel make more sales

That’s what they do

This government

They punish parents, spouses, children

Anyone who is apart of the crime

The feds play our lives like a sport

Except

They’re the only ones holding the ball

They won’t change unless we tell them to

Because

We’re the ones who gave them power

We’re the people in charge

So we have to make changes that benefit

All people

No matter what’s accused

No matter what substance used

No matter who

Because what I learned

We all have to work together

By the People

For the People

It all started at a wooden table

With a child crying in her cradle

Her mother and father gone

This home is not stable

But it won’t be like this forever

Because they have so much to live for

Strength in numbers, together

This is their Fable.

I wrote this when my friend needed help taking care of his neighbor's children. They left them out of the blue one day and, they didn't come back home because, that morning they were arrested for selling drugs.
