A Hero
Hero
A little boy walked up to me
And said “Hi I’m Joe
And you’re my hero
I love the way you threw
The winning touchdown pass
For the State Championship
As he walked away
I started to cry
If he knew about my life
The wrongs I’ve done
And the rights I didn’t
Then he wouldn’t want me to be
His hero after all
So I promised myself
From that day on
To be a better person
And a proud hero to Joe
Chorus 1
A hero like that doctor
Who saves many lives
Not wanting any thanks
Saying “It’s just the right thing to do”
A hero like that lawyer
Who knows wrong from right
And defends the innocent and weak
With all he has to give
A hero like those soldiers
The ones who made it home
And the ones who died
Fighting for our freedom
Ten years later and
I’m on the news
We just won the Superbowl
I looked around the crowd
And a sign caught my eye
It said “You’re my hero
I left with tears
Falling from my face
That sign reminded me
Of my promise to Joe
Chorus 2
To be a hero like that pastor
Who spreads the saving word
To all of God’s people
And he helps everyone
A hero like the common folk
The single mom, the workin’ dad
Both trying to raise a family
Both being beyond tough
I just found out
What happened to Joe
He was killed while helping
A defenseless store clerk
When I heard, I cried
The tears wouldn’t stop
And right there and then
I realized
Who my hero was
Chorus 3
My hero was Joe
Who knew what was right
He helped a friend he never knew
And a robber took his precious life
A hero like Jesus
Who died for us all
So we could live with
Him for all eternity
That’s a real hero, after all
A little boy walked up to me
And said “Hi I’m Joe. And you’re my
Hero”

Love is powerful, irrational and irrevocable, for I love as Jesus loved.
