Lucy (Thoughts of a Dying Man)
Verse 1
Artificial light shines down,
From fluorescent bulbs;
Gently kissing the surface,
Of the wheel worn floors.
Ticking clocks remind me,
That I'm still alive;
Taunting me with consistencies,
At this hectic time.
Verse 2
The sound of shuffled footsteps,
Creep in underneath the door;
Muffled by cheap blue slippers,
In the off-white corridor.
I turn off the lights,
To try and clear my head;
Slivers of light slip through the shades,
To form a cross on my bed
Pre-Chorus
There's a chance that I won't make it through,
There's just one last message I've got to get to you.
Chorus
Thank you for taking me as I am,
All my imperfections, all my unfinished plans;
But Lucy if you say you love me,
I know one day again this man will stand.
Verse 3
Bouquets wrapped in ribbon,
Fill the spaces of my room;
Dozens of white roses,
And cards that read “Get Well Soon.”
Notebooks filled with scrawlings,
Illegible and formless;
Half remembered nightmares,
That leave my bed sheets drenched in sweat.
Pre-Chorus
My future's never looked so bleak'
I might not have much time, so I'll have to be brief
Chorus
Thank you for taking me as I am,
All my imperfections, all my unfinished plans;
But Lucy if you say you love me,
I know one day again this man will stand.
Bridge
Paintings cover the walls of this sacred room,
All these places that I want to see with you;
Sprawling mountains over endless fields,
The heartland of America
Chorus
Thank you for taking me as I am,
All my imperfections, all my unfinished plans;
But Lucy if you say you love me,
I know one day again this man will stand.
But Lucy if you say you love me,
I know one day again this man will stand.
