Light Of The Moon
VERSE 1
I grew up in the light of the moon.
Every day, I went to bed at noon.
My friends woke up as the sky was falling,
And we met at the beach with adventures calling.
VERSE 2
We lived our lives each day by day.
Our motto was “No work, just play.”
We slept in the forest, played midnight truth-or-dare.
Our parents were young once, we knew they didn’t care.
---->
And in the night, I swear we heard our names.
Before our lives would be turned to flames…
CHORUS
We ran wild, we ran free.
We fell in love, just you and me.
We jumped in the lake, got sick for days.
We always dreamed of getting away.
We counted stars, hit up the bars.
Ran from cops when they asked how old we were.
We scavenged the caves, we surfed the waves.
We knew everything would be okay.
VERSE 3
I fell in love with the light of the moon.
Growing up just happened too soon.
There was never a day any one of us was alone,
Now we’re confined to be an office drone.
VERSE 4
I don’t know exactly when it happened.
When did our youth just suddenly end?
Dressed in black tie, no more shorts or ripped-up jeans.
We have to look nice at the funeral of our dreams.
---->
And in the night, I swear I still hear our names.
I remember before our lives turned to flames…
CHORUS
Back when we ran wild, we ran free.
We fell in love, just you and me.
We jumped in the lake, got sick for days.
We always dreamed of getting away.
Back when we counted stars, hit up the bars.
Ran from cops when they asked how old we were.
We scavenged the caves, we surfed the waves.
Back when we thought everything would be okay.
BRIDGE
Now it’s work, work, work, and never just play,
Stuck in our cubicles every single day.
We had so many dreams, just ripped at the seams.
I’m not ready to be part of this team.
Picture frames of the glory days
Of when we would play all these childish games.
We never thought it would end so soon,
Just wanting to stay in the light of the moon.
CHORUS
Back when we ran wild, we ran free.
We roasted marshmallows out by the sea.
We swore to ourselves we would follow our hearts,
And never become what we now are.
Back when we always got lost, no matter the cost,
And we found our way home by following moss.
We danced in the night, and boy, was it a sight!
Back when everything just felt so right.
It used to all be so right.
END
And in the night, I swear I still hear our names…

I was going for a Sugarland sound at first, but as I kept going, that vibe kind of blended into other styles. Tell me what you think.
Dedicated to our past selves.
