Favorite Quote:
Scenery is nothing more than poetry.
Love is nothing more than chemicals.
'Cause fairy tales are just scribbled pages filled with happy endings and little white lies.
One person can make a difference, but a crowd can make a change.

(Come on, you gotta breathe!
Don't you dare flatline on me!)
I don't know what you're feeling when that needle penetrates your arm,
How does it feel with that malicious drug causing you harm?
You get your fix, increasing the dose over time,
Color drains from your skin as you slowly lose your mind.
What happened to you my friend, to make you go down this dark path?
We were once so close, I recall always sharing a laugh.
Somewhere you lost your way and gave into the temptation,
Thinking this venom could be your favorite fixation.
As you lie motionless on the hospital gurney,
I wish I could have changed this all too familiar scenery...
Open your eyes, I need you to wake up!
It's not your time, I know you can be tough.
You were clean for a little over a month,
Then you injected this killer so it could do what it wants.
I can do nothing but helplessly watch you take a gasp,
Searching for a breath because you didn't mean to relapse.
Pull through and you can make a change,
A second chance for this life to rearrange.
Come on, you gotta breathe!
Don't you dare flatline on me!
Caught up in a web of loneliness and lies,
Your mind evaporating as your body slowly dies.
Spending every cent you have just to get a full syringe,
Each time you shoot up I feel my whole face cringe.
I'm unsure of why you took up this appalling behavior,
An addiction that will kill you sooner than later.
I am your best friend and you never once asked me to come to your aid,
I was right there by your side, but you didn't notice the efforts I made.
Now you're lying in a hospital as the doctors do what they can,
I intertwine our fingers, but I feel the lose grip of your hand...
You did it this time, took a little too much,
You got a numb body, can't even feel my touch.
I found you in your room face down on the floor,
Now I'm looking through the ICU window with my heart unbearably sore.
You told me you were doing well, sober and clean,
Is that why I'm staring at your heart monitor screen?
I watch as the doctor comes over, his head lowered down,
Before he even spoke, I knew the tragedy that just came around...
Don't you dare flatline on me...

The author's comments:

I wrote this in memory of my close friend who I found out overdosed on heroin. It's sad to see this malicious drug takes lives this easily and out of the blue. This is for any person or family who has had to deal with an overdose death, or are currently dealing with a heroin addiction patient. This is for ALL of you!
