The Best
She's so intellectual, scholarships locked in,
Her career is all but set.
I got a few things I should be confessin',
But what I wanna say she'll probably forget.
I keep assuming I'm outta her league,
She could do so much better.
But she tells the whole situation differently,
Hoping we can still be together.
But when she goes away I can't help but think,
Will I be forgotten within a blink?
I just want the best for you,
Even it isn't me.
I just want the slightest clue,
If the future holds a we.
A couple hundred miles isn't so far,
I'd walk it all to be by your side.
In my sky you're the brightest star,
Tugging at my heart like the ocean's tide.
And I'll never be quite sure,
If this is just a test.
But we can sail the world or close the door,
'Cause for you, I just want the best.
And you could be sitting in class,
Taking notes for your next lab.
Watching the clock, wishing time would pass,
Contemplating if I'm missing you just as bad.
But another guy could come along,
Steal your glare all the same.
And you would forget the words in this song,
Just like you'll forget my name.
Sleeping in your dorm, do you reach for my hand?
If not, it's cool, I understand.
I just want the best for you,
Even it isn't me.
I just want the slightest clue,
If the future holds a we.
A couple hundred miles isn't so far,
I'd walk it all to be by your side.
In my sky you're the brightest star,
Tugging at my heart like the ocean's tide.
And I'll never be quite sure,
If this is just a test.
But we can sail the world or close the door,
'Cause for you, I just want the best.
Got your image rushing through my mind,
If you're with me, send me a sign.
Movie nights on the couch, sippin' red wine,
Your favorite restaurant, we can dine.
And I'll drop the cheesiest line,
A symphony of words to make you mine.
You're the tallest mountain and I'll make the climb,
'Cause I'll never find a girl like you who's a perfect dime.
I just want the best for you,
Even it isn't me.
I just want the slightest clue,
If the future holds a we.
A couple hundred miles isn't so far,
I'd walk it all to be by your side.
In my sky you're the brightest star,
Tugging at my heart like the ocean's tide.
And I'll never be quite sure,
If this is just a test.
But we can sail the world or close the door,
'Cause for you, I just want the best.
