The Perfect Summer
I remember it was summer
The lake was cool
But don´t drink from the well
The water was cruel
The cabins were covered
With notes and names
People left their mark
Their memory remains
The sun was our blanket
Canoe trips
And the like of it
In our watery home
The waves crashed
As we splashed
We ran and played
Screamed and shouted
We had fun all day
Though our days were well routed
Every day had a theme, a story, a tale
And if you were homesick
You could send mail
We were all tired
Too sad to speak
For we knew what was coming
A campfire bleak
As we gathered
We cried
But our family didn't die
We were not just friends
Oldest boys, oldest girls
Same for the younger ones
It was a perfect mural
Oldest girls always sang
A song just for us
It was a sad goodbye
But we sang on
We must
