Ice Cream, not Fantasy but Ecstasy
Ice Cream man, the bonafide Pied Piper, so divine
Drawn to his music, the crowd gives dulcet giggles
Screams which were once a whisper, so fine
Become dazzlingly euphoric, like melodious wiggles
Chocolate, Pistachio, Butterscotch, even lime,
Vanilla not to forget, I crave for more, down my throat
Mmm...Yum...The rich texture is so sublime
the taste is why we're eating it for, In desire I shall float
The Velvety Coat of cream does have traces of nuts
I feel it as the Frenzy cycles down my tongue, dear
I want more for my heart's Felicity and guts
What if there's no ice cream! That's my greatest fear
Sweetness will kiss goodbye to life, No Ice Cream!
I do not want that to happen even in my dream

I was told that my late paternal grandfather worked in a really popular Ice Cream Producing Company in Sri Lanka named Elephant House. And Ice Cream was my most favourite food in the whole wide world. Actually, I did not eat it like a normal kid but I eat Ice Cream like a kid who is ready to be a future diabetic patient. I mean, I was always craving for more and more Ice Cream and I never got satisfied. But, my parents were sharp enough to give me the correct amount at the correct time. My mother said that when she was pregnant with me, she ate Ice Cream in Baskin Robbins almost everyday in huge amounts. So, that might have been the reason why I crave for Ice Cream so much.
My Late Paternal Grandfather, Shariff Appa would be really happy if he sees this piece in this website. I dedicate this piece to him, because despite him passing away before I was born, he inspired me to build up this poem about Ice Cream because I was told by Dad about him bringing Ice Cream to my Dad's house when Dad was a kid and the moments of them, enjoying it. I might not have seen him in real life or photos but I saw him through my poem. I also dedicate this poem to Dad and Mom who I say are the Sweetness behind the reason of my Ice Cream cravings. I also dedicate this poem to my maternal Grandmother namely Janufa Reyal as she has diabetes and doesn't eat Ice Cream much. Not to forget, I also dedicate this poem to all the readers of Teen Ink.
