The Lonely Swing

I sit on my swing,
In this lonely playground,
And remember the times
When there were other kids around.

We’d climb through the monkey bars,
We’d run and we’d play.
I can remember it all
Just as yesterday.

But now, years later,
I’m the only one here,
And the rusty swing chains
Squeak in my ear.

I look over the area
As I swing back and forth,
And I hope for some proof
That we were ever here before.

And here I’m sitting on it,
The swings we loved so much.
I look over and see
The lost ghost of our fun.

You’re smiling up at me,
Sitting by my side.
The memories of our times together
Bring tears to my eyes.

The wind blows, the swing swings,
And you fade away so fast.
I find myself reaching for you,
Reaching for my past.

As I sit on my swing,
In this deserted playground,
I can’t help but wish
That you were still around.

So this was for a school contest. I actually tried making a happy poem about happy playgrounds and whatever. But apparently anything I write turns out sad. That's ok with me, it's my style I guess...
