Is it your goal in life to bring me down?
To break my heart with your piercing gaze?
If this is to be true, you deserve a crown.
For you should be king of of malicious ways.

My heart was like virginal winter snow
Promising, gentle, and unaffected,
Please tell me how on earth was I to know
The wrongs of the feelings I projected?

I guess it was wrong for me to inquire
To assume chemistry where there was none
And since you don't return my desire
I will have to deny what we begun

Like winter, and every barren, wilting tree,
A mere shell is all that is left of me.

I was told to write an original sonnet about love and a season of the year. Being a cynic, I chose to write about broken-heartedness. But I'm really pleased at how this came out.
