"Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love." - Rainer Maria Rilke

A river gently flows through the dark wood
Winter snow falls lightly on the bare trees
The wind sounds sweeter than violins could
Footsteps make a symphony with the breeze

The world is quiet, the Earth is asleep
Though it will soon awaken into spring
The night has never before seemed so deep
The rushing river waters seem to sing

The softness of nature pours out a tune
The snow makes a beautiful sonata
Mingled with the aria of the moon
The rustling trees sing a cantata

But the song must end and the sun must rise
The snow turns to rain as it says goodbye

The author's comments:
Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening" always spoke to me, but my feelings were different than what he wrote. I wanted to express what I see and hear when surrounded by the mystery of a dark, snowy forest.
