Midsummer's Bitter Dream
As summer’s night aroma filled my room,
The mix of honeysuckles, lilacs, and,
The tang of wet pavement (a heady fume!)
My mind fooled me to think I held a hand.
My dream of bizarreness beheld a road,
Picturesque, my fancy of perfection.
A sunny, happy scenery it showed,
Where smiling faces gave their attention.
My handsome lover appeared beside me,
As we walked through the pretty avenue.
We smiled at each other and then he
Softly whispered in my ear “I love you.”
But sadly I held a handful of sheets,
And I cried softly beneath summer’s heat.
