Once upon a time, you were so close
You knew the veins that run on my palm
A whisper of what you wanted
Told me I was your jewels; buried till dawn

A headless man came, astride a steed
He tried your head on; he liked the fit
The fool dashed, leaving your heart to be
Lack of conscience replaced by regret

Now I roam, with no home, this sad earth
Seeking sun for a beloved heart
With seemingly no purpose or worth

I crave for the day your head comes back
Smarts may have left, but love is what lacks

The author's comments:
I had to write a sonnet for my creative writing class today (5/6/12), so this is what I came up with. It's actually about a guy that I was almost in a relationship with recently and I can't get him out of my head. Hopefully it'll be easier to get over him now that I've written about him.
