For My Parents
Once in a while, we get together
And I feel like I'm normal again
Like a fam'ly in Christmas and summer
We laugh and tell stories of sun and rain.
All those times I've gotten mad and cried,
All those wasted moments when I hated you--
Of all those times I've screamed and lied,
Please, please, forgive me, and I forgive you, too.
You were never really there for me,
You'd always help someone else in need.
But still, I love you, you're my parents--see?
Mom and Dad... two people whose advice I heed.
Thank you both for raising me this way,
I'm sure it'll pay off, not soon, but one day.

This is the one she required as a 'parental sonnet', or a sonnet I'd like to dedicate to my parents. My dysfunctional family and their irresponsible parenthood inspired me to write this poem. I'm sure I'm not the only out there who's been able to write something like this.
