Soda Shop Sorrow
she cried glitter tears that crawled down her cheek
and landed around her ice cream soda
I watched from my chair but never did speak
just sat there sipping a coca cola
everyone ignored this display of grief
except for the idiotic waiter
“Boy troubles?” he asked, bringing no relief
and her glares made him seem like a traitor
“There isn’t a boy who deserves my tears
I have more important reasons to cry
don’t compare my pain to that of my peers
today my entire life went awry.”
I wish I had offered to help that day
instead I just said that for her I’d pay
