Battle of the Heart

Why couldn’t I just let it go?
I let there be nothing
No simplicity of walking away
No simplicity of saying goodbye
Because goodbye meant forever.
Forever was too long .
Letting go was too hard.
And I was too broken.
I had to fight for myself
But I didn’t
I fought against myself.
And I lost.
I lost more than I thought I had.
I lost myself.
