Monsters Under my Bed
I am always afraid to look behind,
For there they lurk in the shadows they hide.
It’s like a rule of theirs: never be kind.
Monsters lie they tell you there on your side.
Heights, and no lights, or never having love,
All of those are faces of the monster.
They own you, control you, they push and shove.
I try all my strength, I have to muster.
Still I quake in fear when it rears its head.
I beg for mercy but none it offers.
It lives within me my heart it is fed.
It robs me of love it takes my coffer.
My fears and me we are very entwined,
And by that simple truth I am confined.
