A Rhymeless Time
I stood vigil to your self destruction
The year that I didn’t write poetry
Every emotion was an obstruction
That killed any once held idolatry
Espresso and pills and cigarette burns
I regret that they carried me through this
Your problems were all my foremost concerns
Blinding me while my own life went amiss
The solace of writing was out of grasp
My emotional outlets escaped me
I was bottled thunder, a stifled gasp
While you went on a calamitous spree
Once and for all it finally ended
To hold a pen once again is splendid
