The shimmering glades where our faeries
Made mischief and baubles are greying
From children whose mothers won’t tell them.
The magic of ripening berries,
The secrets the bluebirds are saying,
Drowned out by the humming below them.
dumDUMdumdumDUMdum, the drum beat
That sets you on edge even though you
Pretend you can’t hear the commotion.
ratTATtatratTATtat, the concrete
Is covered in sugar and ice-blue
Confetti from unused emotion.
They fade like the foam on the ocean.

The author's comments:
Not technically a sonnet, but sonnet inspired.
Written in amphibrachic trimeter, with 2 paired triplets and a closing line instead of 3 quatrains and a closing couplet. It's kind of a mix between a sonnet and a limerick, since limericks are really the only other things that use amphibrachs.
