Hopeful
You lay in bed, your energy is drained
I feel bad that your time is running short
Though you try, your strength cannot be gained
Throughout the denial phase, you resort
to one last kiss, one last bite, one last breath
Bravely, you speak your last couple words
“keep her safe, give them love after my death
I’ll still be with you, though I’ll be unheard”
His laughter and smiles were contagious
I vowed he will always be very proud
An army man, he was so courageous
As we sat and stared, we formed a small crowd
I walked into his room to say goodbye
He is cured and about ready to cry
