A Lonely Air
When I have fears of eternal darkness
And an unrelenting light beckons forth
Hands that grasp your soul with bitter sharpness
Evoking terror and grave dreams henceforth
Sitting alone by firelight in cold sweat
Shivering, shaking and contemplating
Your mind, back and forth in a cruel duet
Mystified, distressed and deprecating
The deepest desires rise and then are gone
Leaving a wounded spirit so shattered
No hope for resolution at sweet dawn
Your ambition’s remnants lay tattered
We all run from shadows to fleeting light
Escaping the tormenting quiet of night
