Petals of the Moon
Every night the stars come in on the tide
Then drift on a breeze up into the sky
Joining the bright moon to serve as a guide
For those lost at sea, wandering, crying why
Go to the beach and reach into the night
Pluck out stars and adorn your silken locks
With the petals of the moon, of pure light
But minute by minute the clock still tocks
Counting the time you have left in this realm
For when the night fades and the dawn rises
You must flee to the woods of pine and elm
To a place where sunlight never slices
I shall forever be with you my dear
Although our different worlds are hardly near

This was originally for a school assignment, but I liked it so much that I decided to enter contests with it. I just started writing about stars coming in on the tide because it sounded...just right. And then all the lovey-dovey stuff, it came after.
