Escapism
Boulder by boulder, we made our ascent.
Upward we shuffled, our hands and feet raw.
Trying to escape the blinding white claw
Of the lights below that shown, so ancient
And though my body and mind were near spent
My comrades strength refusing to withdraw
Away from the ravaged cultural maw.
Together we knew we could not relent.
Our place of birth we attempt to forget
The willowed winds erasing our history
granting us our final freedom, burdens cast
Like dice in the wind, drenched in nature's sweat
Leaving the desserts of man a mystery.
Perhaps, we were a better fit for the past.
