In the November 2013 issue of Teen Ink, Brielle Black irked me with her article “Youth Lack Life Skills.” Brielle described how students no longer have or are taught the life skills that are needed to survive in the world. I do agree that schools do not focus on the practical things in life. Should that be the school’s concern? I feel that the school does not have the responsibility to teach kids those skills. My high school is definitely based heavily on college preparation; however, people can take classes to learn how to cook, build a house, or even be a parent. I do agree people need to be prepared to live outside of school, but leave it to the parents. Parents have from 4:00 to 11:00 every day to teach their kids the necessary skills in life. This teaching should not be the school’s responsibility.
