Freaky Green Eyes
The story is about the life of a 15- year old girl, Francesca, Franky Pierson as she goes through events in her life with struggles to find out and accept the truth about her parents’ relationship. She has a father that is a famous sports writer with extreme anger issues. One of the events leads to her mother’s disappearance. Concerning her mother’s disappearance, Franky reaches deep within herself, a secret part of her she calls Freaky Green Eyes and states’ ‘If mom is gone and isn’t coming back ever, there is dad. There is daddy who loves you’’ (Oates 231). Freaky Green Eyes is a personality that saves her from scary dangerous situations.
Even though Freaky Green Eyes was a sad story, Joyce Carol Oates, the author was really good at visualizing a family that the world thought it was perfect but in reality was not. The author, Joyce Carol Oates was good at making me visualize the characters, and what was happening to them. ’Bruises on her wrists, on her neck and upper arms? Angry red welts made by a man’s strong fingers? ’This is when in the story, I realized what was going on with Francesca’s mother.
Freakys character is very strong and brave after her assault, Joyce Carol Oates captures her alter ego, which helps her through her family’s problems. This led her to finding out the truth she needed to know. This is one of my favorite parts, she find the courage at the end to stand up to her father
