City of Bones
City of Bones, book one of the mortal instruments series, by Cassandra Clare, is a great novel if you love fantasy. Clare creates a world where fantasy and real life intermix. The main characters have faults which most people can identify with, but they also have exciting, adventurous lives that most of us can only dream of.
The main character, Clary, lives a normal life and goes to school, parties, and hangs out with her friends, just like anyone in high school would. However, she discovers that she has the Sight, which allows her to see magic creatures who are not visible to humans. After she meets Jace, a Shadowhunter, her life gets much more complicated. Clary has to worry about more than just homework and what she will wear the next day. Her mother disappears, and Clary questions who she is, and what her mother has been hiding from her. She finds out the world isn't as safe as it appears, and she must be careful who she trusts. Although Clary faces many challenges, she is determined to overcome them and makes new friends.
City of Bones is an excellent fantasy novel; it shows magic, love, family problems, and friends to rely on when all else fails. You should probably start reading it in the morning, because it captures your attention from the first page and doesn't let you go until you've read the last word.
