“No! That’s the name of the book!”
“Oh.”

No other book has caused so many of my friends to get upset with me. But despite annoying some of my friends with the title, I enjoyed reading “Hush Hush.”
“Hush Hush” was one of those books that I saw at Barnes and Nobles and thought “Hm, that may be interesting, but I don’t know if it’s really something I’d want to read.” I am guilty of judging books by their covers, and this one didn’t do much to draw me into the storyline, but it did do enough to make me curious as to what it was about. The cover of “Hush Hush” features a shirtless guy soaring into the sky (that made things slightly more interesting,) with black wings sprouting from his back. The wings aren’t full. In fact, they look as if someone had plucked the feathers right off. The coloring and font used on the cover made me think of a “Twilight” book from far away.
The plotline follows that of the “Twilight” books, I’ll admit. I docked a few points for unoriginality. New boy at school. No one understands him. He’s oddly obsessed with a girl who has no real outstanding qualities. They fall in love. Someone tries to kill her. He saves the day.
The characters were, however, intriguing. I enjoyed Nora (the female lead). I could relate to her. She had depth and a personality. Her best friend, Vee…there are no words in the English language to describe what an idiot she is. While most of her lines were comical, it’s pretty much her fault that everyone almost dies at the end. (NOTE: I SAID ALMOST!).
The male lead, Patch. Oh. My. Goodness. The only thing I can say is… I want one. He’s got the bad boy vibe that’s missing from Edward Cullen, but the protectiveness that’s forgotten in the development of Damien Salvatore. Oh! And to top it all off, he’s not a vampire. His personality rose up and saved the book. Really…without Patch, there would have been no book. He is the cause for all of Nora’s problems and he’s the one that flies in and saves them all in the end, just like a good guardian angel should *wink wink*.
The entire relationship between Patch and Nora is enough to make any girl swoon. He’s attractive and totally obsessed with her even though she’s not totally sure why until around the middle of the book.
I wouldn’t call this book a literary masterpiece, but it was good for entertainment. I definitely plan to read the sequel “Crescendo” as soon as I can get my hands on it, simply due to the fact that I can’t get enough of Patch. I really hope the sequel rises up into a crescendo in the plot as the title suggests.
