Divergent is a teen fiction book with a thrilling sci-fi edge to it. If you are a fan of the Hunger Games by Susan Collins, this is a must read. The title of the book is a hint of what is behind the cover: Divergence. This is a major theme within the story. It’s filled with action, excitement, and speedy revelations that draw the reader along. This world may not be so very far from our own.

In this world society is run by five factions of people; The Abnegation, The Amity, The Candor, The Dauntless, and The Erudite. Each faction has a different way of life and plays a role in the survival of all the peoples. The main character, Beatrice Prior, is a sixteen year old girl who is part of Abnegation. A factor that values selflessness and puts themselves behind others. This particular day she will be taking part in the aptitude tests which will determine which factor she is most suited to be a part of. Abnegation is all she has ever known, but will the results of her aptitude test change that? Could she leave behind her family and friends, and become a part of another faction which she knows so very little about?
